What can we do? How can we help? Part 4

I previously shared Part 1Part 2, and Part 3 with ways to help someone going through any sort of trial. We have been fighting cancer for the last 7 years, but there are so many going through such hard things, many of whom could use some support. Below are a few more ideas, that may take less time and are still very helpful for those going through a financially taxing trial!

  • Gift Cards
    • Food gift cards are always a treat, there are so many times I just don’t feel like cooking20170312_220254 or warming up dinner and so a gift card to get some food was such a treat and there wasn’t stress about spending the money.
    • Coldstone was a fun one because Travis and I got some special ice cream and had a date (I went and picked it up and brought it home, but it was still special).
    • Movie places gave us a planned activity, and this was an easy activity that we could do when he was still feeling sick or weak.
    • Pizza gift card, Rootbeer, and ice cream made for a great quick and easy meal with refreshments that could be eaten whenever!
    • Massage (offer to watch the kids so they can go and not stress!)
    • Gas for all those trips to the doctors.
  • Donations
    • The bills are endless and add up surprisingly fast, between the co-
pays, gas, deductible, medical supplies, etc. We have reached our out of pocket maximum every year, but there is always plenty that is not covered, between medicines, doctors, supplies, etc. Any amount really does help those in need.1933793_10154085398223385_8390521468545422293_n
    • Setting up an account for the family can be helpful. My parents set up an account with America First, because we would get 100% of the donations versus some of the other places. But, we had people from out of state that were unable to donate this way, and so my sister-in-law set up a GoFundMe. This gave people the chance to donate in the way that is easiest for them. We appreciate the assistance so much.
  •  Blanketblanket
    • Going through Chemo really messes with your circulation, having a nice new blanket has been wonderful for Travis, and the fact it was made especially for him made it mean even better. The one pictured here was made by my family, but Travis has also received a couple other soft blankets and he uses all of them and loves his blankets!
  • Help with other financial needs
    • Sometimes it is hard to spend money on other needs, even for the kids. So purchasing those items relieves a lot of financial stress. Things such as socks, clothes, shoes, coats, gloves, hats, underwear, general groceries (canned food, noodles, spaghetti sauce, etc.), etc!

I’ll post a few more next week, so stay tuned! 🙂
